How will I apply my practicum...
America Reads is definitely something I plan to do in my future semesters at UMD. I would like to get involved with it as much as possible, perhaps by applying to be a team leader in spring or fall 2021.
Volunteering with them has helped me realize that I need to have some kind of volunteer experience, preferably with children, in my life at all times. I plan to continue to seek out more volunteer opportunities in College Park and in Louisville that reflect a similar nature of America Reads |

The next two years...
Over the next two years at the University of Maryland, I plan to stick with my plan of becoming a journalist.
I hope to get a lot more involved with campus publications. At this time, I am a staff writer for The Campus Trainer. I would like to try out different publications to get as much experience as I can before I graduate. I will also continue volunteering with America Reads as long as my schedule allows it. I also plan to search out more opportunities in the Prince George County area, so I can become more educated about the area as well as help as many people as I can. |
This Summer...
This summer I am staying in Louisville, Kentucky to intern for the Voice-Tribune, an "upscale, influential, premier society newspaper." I will be able to sit in on meetings, attend events, work with the editor and writers, copy edit and answer emails and phone calls. I'm thrilled to be working with the Voice-Tribune as I have always been an avid reader of the magazine.
I also plan to continue to volunteer at Gilda's Club Louisville, which I volunteered at in high school. Gilda's Club is a place where people who have been touched by cancer can go to receive free therapy sessions, meals and participate in social events. Within Gilda's Club they have Noogieland which is where all of the kids go to play when their parents are having group therapy. Noogieland is where I volunteered and where I would like to continue to volunteer. Similar to America Reads, Noogieland includes a small group therapy session that is used to get the children out of their shell which is followed by reading, playing and running around. I'm excited to go back to Gilda's Club! |
Post-Graduation...
Graduation seems to be many years away but in reality it's only two years away. I hope to find a career as either a fashion or entertainment journalist. My dream is to work in New York City, and that is what I will strive for while applying for a job. I'd like to work with either magazines or online blogs such as Popsugar. It's crazy to think graduation is right around the corner but I know my time at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism and in College Park Scholars is going to prepare me for a great future career.
